Prof. Dr. Mahmut F. Akşit, born in 1967 in Denizli, Turkey, graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Boğaziçi University in 1991. He pursued his academic studies in the United States at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, New York, earning a Master’s degree (MSc) in 1993 and a PhD in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering in 1998.
He received the titles of Associate Professor in 2004 and Professor in 2015. During his time in the U.S., he worked for 10 years at the General Electric Corporate R&D Center, holding positions such as “Consultant Research Engineer,” “Senior Researcher,” “Static Seals Manager,” and finally “Advanced Seals Research Team Leader.” Returning to Turkey in 2001, he served as the Chair of the Energy Systems Engineering Department at Gebze Institute of Technology.
In 2003, he joined Sabancı University’s Mechatronics Engineering Department and has been serving as the General Manager of TEI (Turkish Engine Industries) since December 2013. In addition to this role, he is the Chairman of the Board of ESAC (Eskişehir Aviation Cluster Association) and a member of the Heat Transfer Technical Committee of the International Gas Turbine Institute.
Prof. Akşit has over 30 years of experience in aircraft engines, gas, and steam turbines. He holds more than 60 patents published in 16 different countries and has contributed to nearly 150 scientific publications, including articles, conference proceedings, and technical reports for NASA and NATO.
