After graduating from METU Department of Psychological Counseling and Guidance, he completed his master’s degree at SUNY and his PhD at Boston College. He is currently a faculty member at New York University (NYU), teaching courses and conducting research in the fields of child development and statistics.
With more than 100 scientific publications, Şirin has received the Faculty Excellence Award from Boston College and NYU, the Researcher Award from the US Child Development Foundation, the Research Grand Prize from AERA, and the Social Entrepreneurship Award from the Jacobs Foundation. In 2015, he was elected to the US Academy of Sciences Commission on Children, Adolescents and Families. Since 2020, he has been included in the “Most Influential Scientists” list prepared by Stanford University and Elsevier. In addition to his books published for adults and children, he has realized the 1 Million Books Project for children who do not have books at home. He continues to develop training and mentoring programs for educators and young people and continues to write his articles in Oksijen Newspaper.
